Tracy & Richard’s Kitchen
A warm, considered kitchen renewal, bringing new cabinetry and improved functionality around the character of the original glass cabinets.
The original kitchen was dated and ready for a fresh approach. The design reorganised the space, retaining the existing glass wall cabinets and introducing new cabinetry around them. Warm wood-grain finishes, a dark lava-effect worktop and carefully matched handles create a cohesive kitchen with a welcoming, understated character.
Working around what was worth keeping
The existing glass cabinets were an important part of the kitchen, so the new wall cabinet and larder unit were designed around them. This allowed the clients to preserve a feature they liked while giving the rest of the kitchen a fresh, coordinated look. The pale blue splashback complements the glass cabinets, bringing a soft, cohesive contrast to the warm wood-grain cabinetry.
The long window run presented a practical challenge. At 3,300mm, it exceeded the standard 3m length of laminate worktop. An extra-long worktop was specially sourced to create a continuous surface above the freestanding appliances, avoiding an unnecessary join.
The warmth of wood grain
The cabinetry uses a warm, dark wood-grain melamine finish. Although it is not real wood veneer, the texture and colour bring a natural warmth to the room, giving the kitchen a pleasant, considered appearance without relying on more expensive materials.
The dark lava-effect laminate worktop complements the cabinetry, while sleek handles chosen by the clients echo the existing glass cabinet handles, helping the original and new elements feel part of the same kitchen.
